Hi, my name is Sean Bolan and I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Program Manager of the Wellness and Advocacy Center and to tell you a little about how peer support has helped me. I entered peer support five years ago as an intern at Interlink Self-Help Center and began the group Let’s Talk About Mental Health. In August of the same year, I was hired as an Environmental Team Leader. Working in the field gave me the confidence to take my education to the next level and I enrolled in the Master of Arts program in Counseling at Sonoma State University. I left Interlink in January of 2015 to focus on my education. Even though I had left my position as staff, I continued to be involved in the center as a member and became chair of membership council for one summer.
While finishing my degree, I had the opportunity to become the Peer Support Specialist Instructor for the Consumer Relations Program located here at the Wellness and Advocacy Center in September of 2016. I graduated with a MA in Counseling from SSU in December of 2017 but chose to continue to work in peer support and apply to be the Program Manager rather than pursue becoming a therapist. Peer support gave me the courage to pursue my life goals and to follow my heart when those goals changed. I believe in peer support and I believe in the community here at the Wellness and Advocacy Center.
The Wellness and Advocacy Center is located at 3400 Chanate Road here in Santa Rosa, CA. Please come and take a tour of the center, meet the dedicated staff, and learn about the services we offer.
