Voted Best Place to Work 2017

Goodwill Industries Redwood Empire

Since 1974, nonprofit Goodwill Industries Redwood Empire has been helping thousands of people find and keep jobs, as well as address and overcome barriers to employment.

“We’re known for our repurpose, reuse and recycling efforts, but Goodwill also provides diverse employment, training and behavioral health programs,” said CEO Brandy Evans. “Such a multi-faceted service base requires an equally diversified employee base. We are proud to be an inclusive organization that embraces all without judgment as we continue to change lives, strengthen communities and provide hope through the dignity and power of work.”

Last year Goodwill served 3,658 people in 22 unique programs. Of this number, 1,362 participated in 13 employment readiness programs and 213 obtained unsubsidized jobs. Another 72 participated in vocational assessment programs.

Here is what some of GIRE’s 283 staff members have to say about their employer: “The people who work here are outstanding and almost always willing and ready to go the extra mile to get a job done…. There is a lot of positive communication and interaction among different divisions…. My job is rewarding and I have the autonomy to do what I was hired to do…The services we provide to people with disabilities and mental health challenges and/or substance use are amazing…. This is a collaborative, supportive work environment with a strong work ethic where there is pride in our mission and the jobs we do.”

There are monthly in-person communication and recognition meetings that allow for open dialogue to address questions, concerns and suggestions. Employees receive GIRE store discounts, referral bonuses, tuition reimbursement, acknowledgment for jobs well done, and other benefits.
